Role
Significant progress was made on the 48 Charles Street project in Mayfair, with the submission of planning and listed building consent for Berkeley Estate Asset Management. This marks a notable milestone in the transformation of an 18th-century listed townhouse into a contemporary commercial workspace.
The project presents a complex challenge: balancing the preservation of a heritage-listed structure with the demands of modern construction and functionality. Our approach has involved a detailed review and rationalisation of previous alterations, ensuring that any interventions respect the building’s historic fabric while enhancing its structural integrity.
Construction activities will include a comprehensive strip-out and fabric repairs, followed by the replacement of essential services and external enhancements. Each phase has been carefully planned to optimise efficiency, minimise disruption, and uphold the building’s architectural character. The structural upgrade work is designed to support long-term performance, integrating new core systems within the constraints of the listed status.
Sustainability has been a core focus throughout the project. The construction strategy emphasises material efficiency, improved envelope performance, and the adoption of a fully electric servicing system. These measures aim to reduce operational carbon emissions and manage embodied energy, aligning with broader environmental objectives.
This achievement reflects a concerted effort from the project team, combining heritage expertise, technical precision, and construction excellence.
